This recently built waterfront cottage is secluded in Algonquin wilderness in the beautiful area of Highlands East, in the Haliburton Highlands of Ontario. Located on Contau Lake it has a modern northern cottage feel with a nice balance of natural rugged surroundings and a comfortable, relaxing yard and interior that is equipped with all the modern amenities.
In the first 3 weeks of the season starting June 28 there are many bugs and Deer Flies. However Contau Lake is a great escape for Kayaking and fishing or just lazing inside and reading a book or visiting attractions in the area during the early part of July. From Mid August onward the water goes down, so it is not suitable for swimming but Kayaking is great on the lake.
Accessed by a winding one lane private cottage road, this cottage is privately situated on a gently sloping lot with a shoreline that is shallow all natural soft bottom. Enjoy kayaking or just sit and enjoy the peace and quiet, and the resident wildlife. The shoreline has been kept natural for the waterfowl, access to the lake from the dock ladder or out in the kayaks. The bottom of the bay has logs and stumps for the fish to enjoy. No diving from the dock.
The open concept living space will meet all your needs and allow everyone to gather together while food is being prepped and games are being played. The kitchen and living room will provide you with a wonderful view of the lakeside play area and the lake.
The 4 bedrooms allow you to sleep 8 comfortably and all have windows that open to let the crisp, fresh, summer evening air fill your room.
This quaint cottage is ideal for mature couples or families who love to explore nature, and are looking for that true cottage adventure. A propane Barbecue is available for you to use, as are the 2 kayaks and a peddle boat. Enjoy evenings around the fire pit, walks along the cottage road, lazing outside on the dock or the shade of the lakeside veranda.
Contau Lake is a clean, quiet, family oriented lake that has great perch, walleye and muskie fishing and is just a 15 minute drive from the village of Gooderham, where you’ll find all your basic supplies. If you are looking for more serious shopping, Haliburton is 40 minutes away and has a great selection of shops, restaurants, large food stores, a beer store and LCBO, pharmacies, golf courses, walking trails and much more. You can also enjoy many other attractions and experiences that are within 15 to 60 minutes of this cottage, including a pleasurable day trip to Algonquin Park, Geo Caching in the Geo Caching Capital of Canada with over 150 caches within a 30 km radius of the cottage.

Guest Comments: My whole family had enjoyed our stay at the cottage for the past 7 days. The place itself had all amenities we could have asked for to enjoy our vacation. When there was a water filter problem, one phone call to Amanda solved it! No issues:) Thank you!
Guest Comments: The pictures don't do this cottage justice! (Sorry...saw later that the photos have been updated.) It's very large, the lawn down to the lake is much larger that it looks on the photos, it's just all around wonderful... except for the drive up the private road. That's a bit rough. Oh...and we couldn't find the charcoal bbq that was listed. Note that once the week was out, none of us wanted to leave! A beautiful, quiet, relaxing spot.
CCR Reply: Thank you for the review. We have corrected the listing to reflect that only a propane BBQ is there now. We hope we can serve you in the future.
