A balance of quiet, natural surroundings and relaxing interior, make Heron's Rest on Contau Lake, Gooderham, Ontario in the Haliburton Highlands a great Couples Retreat or for your family to experience and create lasting cottage memories.
As you enter the cottage from the parking area, you will find a lovely, clean kitchen with modern amenities, and a relaxing living room with an entertainment centre. The master bedroom has a queen size bed. The second bedroom has a queen, and the third bedroom has a set of single bunk beds. This cottage is very attractive, clean and well maintained. A maximum of 4 adults please.
On the deck there is patio furniture and a propane BBQ for the resident cottage chef. Below the deck is a fire pit area. Down some stairs, you can sit and relax on the dock where there is a very nice view of the lake and beautiful sunsets.
The cottage gets its name from a small bay on the property where the Heron likes to rest. Contau Lake is clean and clear. The shoreline is all natural beauty. The lake is a few feet deep at the dock where the bottom is entirely natural. You can enjoy swimming from the swim ladder attached to the dock and a canoe is provided for your enjoyment. There are yellow perch, walleye and musky if fishing is what you like to do. This property is in a natural forested area and the path to the dock is steep and rugged.
Accessed by a private cottage road called Beaver Valley Road, it only services a few cottages and has many natural attractions offering a great walk for viewing nature.
Located approx. 15 minutes drive from the village of Gooderham, Ontario where you can find all the basic supplies such as a restaurant, LCBO/Beer store, a very well stocked general store, and more. If you are looking for more serious shopping, Haliburton is 40 minutes away and has many shops, restaurants, large food stores, LCBO, beer store, pharmacies, hardware, golf courses, walking trails, hospital and clinics as well is it’s renowned local art and culture. - Pillows and blankets are provided.
- Bed, bath and kitchen linens are not provided - you will need to bring your own, unless otherwise arranged during the booking process.
- A starter supply of tissue, paper towel and toilet paper is provided - please replenish what you use.
- You will need to clean the cottage and grounds as well as remove the garbage when you check out unless otherwise arranged during the booking process.
- BBQ Gas is provided
- Please bring drinking water
A Welcome Book, located on the kitchen table, contains important guest information - please ensure you familiarize yourself with its contents, such as:
- Garbage information
- Location of cleaning supplies
- Power failure instructions
- Primary contact information
Should we have to do an emergency clean and/or remove any garbage, fees will be applied per the Terms and Conditions you agreed to.
All of our cottages are checked in between each group of Guests to confirm that everything is in order for your arrival.
- Check in time is 4pm and check out is at 11 am.
You will need to bring proper size life jackets for everyone participating in water activities. Paddles for the canoe are provided.

Mandatory Services
- Non-Refundable Booking Fee: $120.00 per stay plus HST
Payment Notes
There is a deposit required of 30% of the rental rate plus the Non-Refundable Service Fee and HST upon booking and we will use your VISA, MC or Discover card for that.
The balance is due 30 days in advance of your arrival by email transfer, post-dated cheque or credit card.

Guest Comments: Everything was great. The cottage was extremely clean and felt very welcoming and well cared for. The only minor complaint I would have is that the water wasn't great for swimming; lots of logs and a really thick, sticky, almost quick-sand-like bottom. But, we still had an excellent time and would rent there again.�

Guest Comments: A lovely property - very well maintained and just as described in the listing. The only other comment I have is with respect to the information in the listing - some items are listed as not included/available (such as life jackets and paddles for the canoe) and they were there - an updating of this information would be helpful.
